Subsequently, the ISSG reached a common understanding on several issues regarding the Syrian crisis such as:
- The group agreed to work to implement a nationwide ceasefire in Syria to come into effect as soon as the representative of the Syrian government and opposition have begun initial steps towards the transition under the UN auspices on the basis of Geneva communiqué.
- They reaffirmed their support for the transition process contained in the 2012 Geneva communiqué, and in this respect they reaffirmed their support for a ceasefire within a target of six months, establish credible and non sectarian government and set a schedule for drafting a new constitution.
- Free and fair election would be held pursuant to the new constitution within 18 months, and this election will be under the UN auspices.
In this regard, AAPSO reaffirms that the political process is the key in solving the Syrian crisis, meanwhile AAPSO calls upon the international community and UN to fight strongly terrorist groups such as ISIS, Nusra front and others, as no country isn't immune from the heinous attacks carried out by these terrorist groups.
