On Situation in the Caucasus

The 8th Congress of Afro-Asian Peoples Solidarity Organisation has expressed its concern on the critical situation in Caucasus where a brief military conflict took place in the month of August. This conflict should be understood in the background of the strategic design of the United States in the Caucasus.

The so-called “colour revolution” which installed Mikheil Saakashvili as the President was instrumental to enclave both South Ossetia and Abkhazia in to Georgia and is totally responsible for the August conflict resulted into death of many thousands people.

The brief military confrontation in the Caucasus is being used to push Georgia’s induction into the NATO overcoming the reservations held earlier by Germany, France, Italy and other European countries. The US has used the conflict in the Caucasus to rally its NATO allies on the pretext of confronting a “revanchist Russia”.

While the Congress condemns the Georgian regime for such heinous acts, its call upon all parties to expose the imperialist design in Caucasus and should take proper initiative to resolve the existing crisis through peaceful means.
