The Democratic Republic of the Congo

* 8/1999

The Permanent Secretariat of the Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organization -AAPSO- rejoices at the successful conclusion of the negotiations for selling the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Permanent Secretariat of AAPSO is convinced that the belligerent parties, conscious of the positive consequences of the signed agreement, will respect it, making it possible on the one hand for the Congolese people to participate in the construction and development of their country, and, on the other hand, for all the countries of the Great Lakes region to endeavour to act effectively in terms of promoting and reinforcing peace and stability, the sole means to enable Africa, in general, to proceed towards progress and prosperity.
AAPSO commends the efforts of all those who have contributed to the settlement of this conflict and hopes for beneficial collaboration and cooperation among the people of Africa, manifesting once again that Africans are capable of resolving their own problems and preventing outside forces from intervening in the African affairs.
