Report on the Activities of AAPSO's Permanent Secretariat January 2007

AAPSO’s Permanent Secretariat carried out and participated in some activities during January inside and outside the Arab Republic of Egypt. These activities are as follows:

Activities prepared by AAPSO’s permanent Secretariat

1- A meeting with the Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Cairo to consolidate and strengthen the bilateral relations. AAPSO reassured its continuous support to Korea's unity. Moreover, AAPSO’s delegation received an invitation to participate in the "Admiration Gathering for the Sun of 21st Century" which will be held in February 2007 in Pyongyang.
The meeting was held on 10/1/2007 at AAPSO’s headquarters Mr. Nouri Abdul Razzak, Mr. Vidyasekera and Ms. Hamsa Abd EI- Hamid attended the meeting.

2- A seminar on "The New American Strategy for dealing with the conflict in Iraq" on 30/1/2007 at AAPSO’s headquarters.
A limited number of researchers and specialists in the Middle Eastern issues attended the seminar to express their views on the American policy for the future of the Middle East region.

Activities in which AAPSO’s Permanent Secretariat participated inside A.R.E.

1- A seminar on "Women and Development" organized by Afro Asian Women's Group on 13/1/2007 at Hilton Ramsis Hotel.
Ms. Hamsa Abd EI- Hamid attended the seminar that discussed the role of women in development. Two speakers, one representing Africa and another representing Asia participated by two papers.

2- A seminar on "Women's demands and how to introduce them in the coming constitutional amendments", organized by "The Egyptian Centre for Women's Rights" on 14/1/2007 at Pyramisa Hotel.
Ms. Hamsa Abd EI- Hamid attended the seminar.

3- Conference on "The Iranian Policy and the Regional Security" organized by The National Centre for Middle East Studies on 16/1/2007.
The conference tackled some pivots that-are: the nature of the Iranian nuclear programme, Iran internally, Iran in the regional and international framework, the Israeli perspective of the Iranian nuclear programme, the Iranian policy and security in the Gulf, and the Egyptian- Iranian relations between reality and future horizons.
Ms. Hamsa Abd EI- Hamid participated in the conference.

4- A meeting of the economic committee to follow up the preparations for the Afro- Asian Business Summit - Egypt 2007 on 22/1/2007 at the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce.
Ms. Hamsa Abd EI- Hamid attended the meeting.

Activities in which AAPSO’s Permanent Secretariat participated outside A.R.E.

1- "World Social Forum" in facing the negative aspects of globalization and its militarism, defending peace and the peoples' right of self- determination as well as democracy and human rights.
The forum was held in Nairobi- Kenya from 20 to 25 January 2007.
A delegation comprised of: Dr. Fakhry Labib, Dr. Mostafa EI Labbad, Mr. Nabil Sobhy and Ms. Hagar Shokr participated in the Forum representing AAPSO’s Permanent Secretariat.

AAPSO’s Permanent Secretariat held two seminars at the Forum's venue. The first seminar was held on 22/1/2007 and discussed "The New Middle East Project between Democracy and Aggression" while the second was held on 23/1/2007 and tackled "The Iranian Nuclear Crises".

Next Events:
AAPSO Permanent Secretariat will organize a seminar with Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace on "Indo-Us Nuclear Deal, India, South Asia, NAM and the Global Order" to be held in March 10-12, 2007, Mumbai, India.
