Terrorist Attacks in Sri Lanka

Afro Asian People’s Solidarity Organization – AAPSO strongly condemns the series of nine bombings in Sri Lanka targeted Christian churches and hotels in three cities, the death toll has risen to at least 290 people and wounded more than 500 others on Easter Sunday.

The suicide bombings that killed over 290 people have brought back horrifying memories of the violence that plagued Sri Lanka during its brutal civil war that lasted from 1983 to 2009.

The coordinated terrorist attacks on innocent people gathering in a place of worship are affronts to the universal values and freedoms, and demonstrate yet again the brutal nature of radical terrorists whose sole aim is to threaten peace and security, of all of humanity.

In this regards , AAPSO confirms that fighting terrorism is a major priority for all of countries and we reiterate our resolve to work together to prevent terrorist acts through increased international solidarity and cooperation, in full recognition of the UN’s central role, and in accordance with UN Charter and obligations under international law, including international human rights law, as well as through the full implementation of the relevant international conventions, UN Security Council Resolutions and the UN Global Counter Terrorism Strategy.

AAPSO offers its heartfelt condolences to the great people of Sri Lanka, all victims of the attacks and expressed its commitment with the Sri Lankan government and peoples in solidarity and combating terrorism.
