World refugee Day - 20 June

AAPSO Stand #With Refugees 2016

Today, on World Refugee Day, we recognize those who have been uprooted from their homes at an unprecedented scale, leaving some 60 million people displaced worldwide. The number of people who displaced by conflict is at the highest level ever recorded since the second world war, it estimates that 65.3 million people were either refugees, asylum seekers or internally displaced at the end of 2015, an increase of 5million in a year and this represents one in every 113 people on the planet, according to the UN agency annual report.

Afro Asian People's Solidarity Organization AAPSO believes that now is the time to call the leaders of the world community to take concrete actions towards resolving this huge crisis, and meanwhile AAPSO stands with the #With Refugees petition that will be delivered to UN headquarters in New York ahead of the UN High Level Meeting on Refugees and Migrants, scheduled for the next 19th September.

The petition asks governments to:

• Ensure every refugee child gets an education.
• Ensure every refugee family has somewhere safe to live.
• Ensure every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution to their community.

There is an urgent need for humanitarian action to ensure refugees have access to secure transit routes, safe spaces and protection when they arrive in a host country, and resources and services that will help them to build a post-conflict life free from violence and poverty.
