South China Sea tension

Afro Asian People's Solidarity Organization AAPSO expresses its profound concern about the tension in the South China Sea region, as the risk of conflict in the South China Sea is significant.

China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines have competing territorial and jurisdictional claims, particularly over rights to exploit the region's possibly extensive reserves of oil and gas and the Freedom of navigation in the region is also a contentious issue. All of these are leading to dangerous threats to peace, security and stability in the region such as foreign interference.

We urge all the parties in this dispute to resolve their international disputes by peaceful means, principles of justice, and prevent any foreign interference in this area under the United Nation convention on the law of Sea (LOS Convention) as it was considered as one of the most successful of the codifications and progressive developments of international law made by the United Nations since the end of the World War II, and it has determined the international legal order within which all activities in the oceans and seas must be carried out.
