On the 8th of March 1908, a march included thousands of women in New York, called for the legitimate human rights for women; protesting against the inhumane conditions at work, demanding the reduction of working hours, stop child labor and granting women the right to vote.
In 1977, the International Organization for human rights adopted a resolution calling the world to adopt any day of the year to celebrate the women; so the common choice was the 8th of March. The United Nations issued a resolution in 1993, including that women's rights are an integral part of the universal human rights system. However, the women and specially the Arabic women are still suffering from a lot of inherited traditions and customs that devalue women.
The United Nations adopted at the opening of the fifty-seventh session the issue of ending violence against women, yesterday the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Jan Eliasson; mentioned in his speech in front of the committee that ending violence against women is a matter of life or death, noting that millions of women and girls suffer from that all over the world even in the most stable and developed countries.
AAPSO seeks and supports women's rights to full freedom of expression, the right to education, the right to work and retirement... etc, on the other hand, we commend the " unite" campaign launched by the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki Mon, which was entitled as " unite to end violence against women", specially that violence against women and girls remains rampant, also impunity still prevails, despite what has been achieved during the past decades of progress in the development of international standards and norms and national laws, policies and programs.
