Communiqué On the Arab Summit of March 2010

The Arab Summit, scheduled on the 27th and the 28th of March 2010 in Sirte, Libya, comes amidst a number of events and changes that are troubling the Arab arena.

The Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organization (AAPSO) appeals to the Arab leaders to adopt an Arab unified stance towards facing the Israeli practices and the reoccurring attacks on the Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem and insisting on threatening them and not merely issuing statements of condemnation and denunciation.

What is happening in Jerusalem poses a threat to the Arab national security, a situation which makes it necessary for the Arab leaders to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, endorse the Palestinian authority and activate the Arab Peace Initiative. In that respect, AAPSO appeals to the Palestinian factions to renounce disputes, abandon conflicts, undertake their responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and confront the imminent danger surrounding them. Israel exploits those disputes between the Palestinian factions for implementing its criminal schemes. AAPSO also calls upon the Arab leaders to activate all the conventions of the Arab joint action on all levels, especially those related to the Arab common market in pursuance of the Arab economic unity.

AAPSO also calls for reconsidering the Pact of the League of Arab States for making its resolutions abiding and working on the development of the Arab Parliament so that its resolutions would also be binding on the Arab governments. AAPSO also suggests the establishment of an Arab court for settling the disputes which may arise between two or more countries.

Finally, AAPSO calls upon the Arab leaders to formulate an Arab unified stance on taking practical steps to free the Middle East of the weapons of mass destructions.
